I have always considered food a life pillar
Having completed my master’s degree at the University of Padua in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology with a specialisation in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, I commenced my career as a pharmacist, in the hope of positively impacting people’s lives.
While I enjoyed considerable professional success within community pharmacies – moving to London, and joining the UK General Pharmaceutical Council in doing so – within a few years of practising, I became acutely aware of the fact that drugs alone were simply not sufficient to re-establish health. Significantly, I noted the number of patients I supported on a daily basis who were taking medication to treat symptoms that were indicative of deeper imbalance. While many considered drugs to be a akin to a magic wand they could wave to achieve better health, the reality was that few were aware of the need to reinforce their drug regime with lifestyle adjustments. A distinct lack of support from an overwhelmed health system inevitably meant that they were left to determine their path to improved health on their own.
Significantly, I found that the clinical approach to patient care was built around compartmentalisation – treating different aspects of patients’ issues in isolation, rather than placing them in context of the person as a whole. It was this that brought about the personal realisation that my mindset and approach to patient support had shifted completely. Based on this revelation, I identified the deep interconnection between emotional state and physical sickness, and the way in which society treats individuals in different compartments rather than as a communion of body, mind, and spirit. To my mind, it was evident that a more integrated approach was required if profound changes were to be made in patients’ lives.
To combat the discord between contemporary practises and patients’ needs, I took it upon myself to broaden my knowledge of lifestyle and nutrition; qualifying as a Nutritional Therapist with a Postgraduate Diploma in Personalised Nutrition, awarded by Middlesex University in collaboration with the Centre for Nutrition Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM) shortly thereafter. During my studies, I also completed the Nutritional Therapy Practice Diploma (NTPD), awarded by the CNELM and accredited by the UK’s Nutritional Therapy Education Commission (NTEC), before qualifying as a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner & Dietary Educator.
However, outside the sphere of academic achievement, this also served as a period of spiritual and holistic exploration for me. Study of Kinesiology (Touch For Health proficiency level) and certifications in Emotional Release, Second Degree Reiki, Theta Healing® and Access the Bars® began to bridge the gap between my clinical knowledge and the discordant approach to patient treatment I had witnessed previously.
More about me
Growing up in Italy, I have always considered food a life pillar; both an integrative part of the family and the wider society in which we live. As long as I can remember, I have always been a food fan. Indeed, my dream throughout elementary school was to become a famous chef pâtissier. While food often represented family, joy and sharing, unfortunately, due to a series of life stressors, it ultimately led me to become obese from a young age. As I’m sure you can imagine, it wasn’t easy growing up with the burden of extra kilograms hanging around my neck. Not only did it affect my self-esteem, it also had a considerable impact on my health and wellbeing. It was only during my university years that I succeeded in shedding the additional weight – dropping more than 20 kilograms in a matter of months through a combination of exercise and a hypocaloric diet. Unfortunately, following this rapid weight loss, I found it difficult to re-establish a balanced diet and achieve a sustainably healthy lifestyle. Ultimately, it was several years before I was able to establish a balanced relationship between food and physical movement. The lengthy healing journey helped me to integrate my previous perception of food with the renewed concept of food as a healing and empowering tool in my life. By harnessing the power of my personal healing journey alongside my education and clinical experience, I am now able to help clients with their own health issues. The compassionate and judgment-free approach I embed at the core of my methods derives from my own experience and knowledge of what it feels like to live in my client’s shoes.
Nutritional therapy and my approach to nutrition:
As a Nutritional Therapist, I apply evidence-based nutrition science to promote health, improve performance and encourage self-care. I work closely with my clients to assess their behaviours and identify potential root causes of their health imbalances, which provides me with key insights into the way in which these may contribute to their symptoms and health concerns. This individualised approach allows me to support you in achieving nutritional balance, while helping the body to maintain health.
My work is predicated on an acknowledgment that we are all different, and as such, that which works for you might not work for someone else. I therefore use an integrated approach which combines my scientific knowledge with my pharmaceutical background and my nutritional expertise to help you find your unique recipe for health and wellbeing.
I work with you to identify and integrate lifestyle and nutritional changes that are specially designed to fit your beliefs, ethics, economic availability, and, in general, your life.
To ensure the support you receive meets the highest contemporary standards, I regularly collaborate with medical and healthcare professionals, to maximise client care.
I embed both NLP and coaching techniques at the core of each step of your nutritional journey. If experience has taught me anything, it’s that one of the most challenging parts of your healing journey is embracing change and creating healthy habits. It is for this reason that I ensure all my clients feel supported, outside of our 1-on-1 sessions and during their daily lives, by making myself available at all times via email, WhatsApp and phone. Remember, I’m here to help in any way I can.
